The Isle of Skye is stunning, atmospheric, romantic and one of the most perfect places for couples to elope to in Scotland. With a dramatic view around every corner it is hardly surprising that elopements in Skye are becoming increasingly popular.
Scotland does not have any restrictions on where you can get married so you can make your commitment to each other in almost any location amidst stunning scenery. The Isle of Skye has so many wedding ceremony locations to choose from.
Many choose the Isle of Skye as their destination wedding location even though they live abroad and have never been there. Below I have have listed some wonderful locations to look at if you are considering getting married or eloping to the Isle of Skye.
Loch Coruisk – romantic, misty views
Situated in the midst of the Cuillin Hills, and surrounded by craggy mountains, Loch Coruisk is the most spectacular of Scotland’s freshwater lochs. The romantic atmosphere is often intensified by the enveloping mist which lends itself to breathtaking wedding imagery. The loch is home to seals and other sea life making it one of scotland’s truly wild places. (Remember to wear sturdy footwear as the paths can be muddy!) Misty Isles boat trips can take you over on private charter and from there it is a short but rocky walk over to the Loch. Loch Coruisk is one of my favourite wedding locations on the Isle of Skye.
Seaflower Skye & the Isle of Rona
If you are looking for a quiet and unusual location for your wedding, Seaflower Skye have come up with an incredible new option. A trip on their boat from Portree over to the Isle of Rona. With only 2 residents, your ceremony would be only watched by deer, the resident seal colony and sea eagles flying overhead!
Fairy Glen – mystical, magical, minature landscape
The Fairy Glen is widely chosen by eloping couples. The cone-shaped, pyramid hills and natural rock formation, scattered with waterfalls and ponds, is enchanting. This beautiful and peaceful terrain is off the beaten track – just waiting to be enjoyed!
Location: Parking is very limited. It’s approx 30 mins walk from Uig
Easy access to some of Skye’s most dramatic scenery. The route to The Quiraing passes through some of the most spectacular landscape in Scotland and can be the background for truly dramatic wedding photography.
Location: The car park (can be busy in summer) is 5.5 miles from Uig, 2.5 miles from Staffin and 21 miles from Portree. The walk itself is a 4 mile circuit from the car park and takes approximately 2hrs – well worth the effort for stunning images!
Sligachan Old Bridge Area – enchanted waters
This wonderful old bridge, steeped in history, is a beautiful, mythical setting for many couples who are looking for a romantic wedding ceremony. Its central location and easy accessibility is a huge attraction.
Location: Sligachan Bridge is 9.4 miles from Portree
Old Man of Storr – iconic viewpoint
It doesn’t get more dramatic and iconic than the Old Man of Storr. As one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, it is a wonderful setting and creates dramatic and exciting wedding photography. It is particularly popular with couples who love the outdoors and walking.
Location: The Storr walk uses the same path up and down, starting and returning at the same point (the carpark) and is approx 2.5 miles. The carpark is located right by the main road, 6.8miles from Portree which will take about 10 minutes to drive.
Elgol – idyllic elopement setting
The small hamlet of Elgol is a little fishing and crofting village which has spectacular mountain and seascape scenery. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and perfect for an intimate elopement wedding! If the weather is really extreme Honeycomb Cliff Rock proves an ideal cover for the ceremony.
Location: Elgol is approximately 40 miles from Portree.
Staffin Bay – beautiful secluded beach
The peaceful, secluded Staffin Bay is ever popular with couples looking for an intimate elopement or beach wedding. The soft volcanic sandy beach interspersed with rounded and sparkling boulders creates beautiful images (and is perfect for paddling, if wished!).
Location: The bay is located about 17 miles north of Portree.
Eilean Donan Castle – unique wedding venue
As a spectacular and remote wedding venue, Eilean Donan Castle is unique. If the weather is kind, the ceremony can be held in the Courtyard looking out to mountains of Skye, otherwise it can be held in the Banqueting Hall. The fabulous setting and wonderful scenery ensures couples have a day to remember.
Location: Eilean Donan Castle is 8.6 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh.
Dunscaith Castle – romantic ruined castle
What is more romantic than an elopement wedding ceremony in the dramatic ruins of Dunscaith Castle? It is a short, easy walk from the road at Tokavaig. The surrounding cliffs and sensational seascapes provide the perfect canvas for truly spectacular photographs!
Location: The Castle is approximately 18 miles from Broadford.
The short, easy walk from the road to the beautiful Talisker Beach is a favourite for elopement and beach weddings! It’s in a spectacular setting at the foot of Glen Oraid. With the impressive cliffs and distinctive grey sandy beaches, memories to last a lifetime are captured.
Location: Talisker Bay is 4.4 miles from Carbost.
Fairy Pools – mystical, crystal clear blue pools
As the name suggests these pools, set at the foot of the Black Cuillins, are the ideal location for magical, dramatic wedding photographs! There are numerous pools and waterfalls to choose from as a backdrop. Sturdy footwear is highly recommended as muddy paths, stepping stones and river crossings are encountered along the way. The return trip to the first main waterfall and pool is approx 1.5 miles but the chances are you will feel compelled to explore further!
Location: Parking is in the Forestry Commission gravel carpark (Glumagan Na Sithichean – Fairy Pools) on the single track road from Carbrittle to Carbost. From Carbost it is 5.5 miles and from Portree 20.5 miles.
