Matt and Shaie had never been to the Isle of Harris but had fallen in love with the idea of getting married on a cliff top on the remote and beautiful location of the Isle of Harris after seeing some of my wedding photographs taken on the Outer Hebrides. Their only challenge was that their wedding day was scheduled to be in December. Anyone who has been to Scotland in December, knows it is not the ideal time to plan an outdoor wedding in the Hebrides. While they were hopeful the weather would hold for them, they needed a back up plan. Which is how the Sound of Harris becomes the ideal wedding venue on the Island. Gorgeous interiors with a living room large enough for the wedding to be indoors, but just a few yards away from stunning scenery.
Every detail in the Sound of Harris has been carefully thought about, lovingly collected and put together. Carol and Rob have thought of everything to ensure their guests have everything they need; from art supplies to binoculars to a fully kitted out kitchen.
When you plan a wedding on the Isle of Harris, you can expect everyone to know each other and to help out accordingly. From the Registrar, to the hair and makeup ladies, to the piper. Everyone cared about this wedding day as if it was their own and indeed, they do so for all weddings on the island.
Chris from Flavour is a fabulous chef; his work is a feast for the eyes, while still being tasty and fulfilling. Matt and Shaie wanted a small adult buffet for the first evening with a children’s party theme. Many exquisite Chefs like Chris would be horrified and talk you out of such an idea – but not Chris. From haggis sausage rolls to mini bruschetta pizzas, the wedding buffet went down a storm. A full 3 course dinner cooked in the comfort of the Sound of Harris for the couple, followed on their second evening. Canapes, lobster, cheese souffles and melting chocolate pudding. The food from Flavour is to the standard you would expect in a high end London restaurant. I went over to photograph the food and the chef at work to document and bring you images of what to expect from your own personal in house chef on the Isle of Harris. I would highly recommend this option – you don’t even have to be getting married to hire him to cook for you!
Siar Beauty offer beauty services on the Isle of Harris and they come to your accommodation before the ceremony. Both Shaie and her Witness Lil don’t regularly get their hair and make up done professionally. Like many of us! Shaie commented afterwards how lovely both Elaine and Mhairi were and how they did not feel out of place and awkward at all…..
Of course a blog post about getting married on the Isle of Harris would not be complete without a mention of the very lovely Helen Maher. Helen is the registrar on the island who looks over the entire process as if you were her family. She genuinely cares about her couples and making everything as perfect for them as possible. The Scarista Piper is a wonderful piper who lives locally and can provide a lovely touch to your wedding day. Shaie and Matt even had a highland dancing demonstration set the pipes in the living area of the Sound of Harris. If you are looking for a romantic getaway wedding to the isle of Harris, read this post, look through their images and rest assured you will have the most amazing day. I am looking to put together a bespoke wedding service shortly that will allow you to book your small intimate wedding on the Isle of Harris with ease and assurance that everything is handled for you. Keep an eye out on this blog!
